      IAEA 2019 continues with sessions

      Organized by the State Examination Center of Azerbaijan, the 45th International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) Annual Conference has today continued with sessions

      The conference featured sessions focusing on “Assessment standards”, “Quality assurance in testing”, “Assessment reforms”, “Application of assessment models”, “Admission forecasting” and other topics. 

      In “Quality assurance in testing” session, Adigozal Habibov and Elmir Mamishov from the State Examination Center of Azerbaijan presented their thesis on “The analysis and estimation of the activity of the examination invigilators taking part in the examinations held by the State Examination Center”. The following issues were touched upon in the presentation:

      - The requirements considered during the appointment of the invigilators to the Examinations,

      - The estimation criteria considered while assessing invigilators by the examination managers during the examination,

      - The method of investigating rule violation during the examination, investigation of the cheating cases and a comparative analysis of the results considering the parameters like the examination practice of the invigilator, subject scope and age of the examinees,

      - Making final annual analysis of the activity of the invigilators by combining in the unit database the results of the invigilator gained from each examination according to the main parameters,

      - Choosing the best among the invigilators by taking into consideration the final analysis alongside with their performance in the previous years and motivating the activity of the examination invigilators,

      - Considering the results of the analysis in the selection of the invigilators, their preparation trainings for the examination and their appointment to the examination. 

      In “Assessment for selection” session Azar Abizade from ADA University and Fizza Mirzaliyeva from Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan presented their thesis on selection criteria for honors program in Azerbaijan. In their research, authors identified the criterion/a that is/are more crucial in predicting student success in honors program. The results of the research show that all three criteria used in the selection are highly significant predictors of the student success in honors program. 

      In the session, presentations on Measuring potential: the use of assessments in selection decisions and private e-assessment platform: effective use for school enrollment in Kazakhstan were also heard. 

      Second half of the 5th day of the conference, continued with the sessions covering assessment reforms, assessment delivery models and admission predictions. 

      In “Assessment reforms” session Gulluzar Balajanova from the State Examination Center of Azerbaijan presented their thesis covering the role of the State Examination Centre in Advanced Medical Study (Residency Education) in Azerbaijan. 

      In “Assessment delivery models” session Rahman Mehraliyev, Said Askerzade and Sarkhan Guliyev presented their thesis on comparative analysis of test delivery models in Azerbaijan: civil service selection exams. Their research covered the comparison of the preparation process of testing-measurement materials for computer-based and paper-based examinations, the software types used in the preparation process of testing-measurement materials, the comparative analysis of the statistics of the same-type of test items depending on the examination form, as well as the effect of the examination form on the candidates’ scores.

      The sessions also heard speeches on the topics: “Ensuring standardization and justice for multidisciplinary exam administrations: Aga Khan University in the practice of Examination Commission (Pakistan), “National assessment of education results of 2018 in Saudi Arabia”, and "Social responsibility in applying assessment techniques" (Nigeria).

      The IAEA 2019 brings together more than 300 delegates from 55 countries.

      In 2007, Azerbaijan State Examination Center hosted the 33rd International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) Annual Conference. It was elected a member of the IAEA Executive Committee in 2008.

      The IAEA 2019 international conference will run until September 27.
