Pearson VUE 

The State Examination Centre (SEC) has signed a contract with Pearson VUE, and is a certified Pearson VUE Test Center. Pearson VUE (part of Pearson) is the leader in computer-based testing. SEC now has rights to administer Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) and about 100 more examinations in the field of IT, Finance, Accounting, Management, Medicine etc.

Each year more than 14 million people around the world take an exam with Pearson VUE.

In order to attend the exams test takers are required to create an account via pearsonvue.com After completion, enter your account by selecting your testing program and register. When you register, you should select ““Azerbaijan Republic State Examination Center” as your test center. Once you have selected the test center, you will be able to get information about the exam dates available in the SEC.

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)

PTE Academic is a 3 hour long, computer-based assessment of a person’s English language ability in an academic context. The test assesses an individual’s communicative skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills through questions using authentically-sourced material. In addition, the test provides feedback on enabling skills in the form of Oral Fluency, Grammar, Vocabulary, Written Discourse, Pronunciation and Spelling. 

Register for the test:

To register a candidate must create a new web account on the Pearson VUE website,entering their personal details. The candidate will receive an email within 1 – 2 business days containing confirmation of their Username and Password. 

Go to http://pearsonpte.com/book-now/ read all the information on the page. In

order to book your PTE Academic test, you will need to complete the following: 

1. Click ‘Sign in Now’ & enter your details. Once you have successfully logged in,

click ‘PTE-A: Pearson Test of English Academic’ under Exam Catalogue. 

2. Select ‘Schedule Exams’ on the right-hand side. 

3. Provide answers to all the required questions then click ‘Next’ 

4. Select your desired location and click ‘Next’. Search for available dates and times. 

5. Once you have confirmed your location, date & time you will be asked to review your booking information and proceed to checkout. 

6. Confirm all the details and make full payment to secure your booking. 

7. Once you have completed your booking you will receive an email confirmation. The email will contain details on test center location, directions of how to get there and a few points to remember on the test day. 

On test date 

You should arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of your test. This gives you

plenty of time to check in and pass security. You should show your passport when

arriving at the test center. 

Test Format

During the three-hour test session there will be three main parts to the test: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading. There are twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple choice through to essay writing and interpreting information. 

Part 1: Speaking & Writing (77 – 93 Minutes)
In Part 1 you will be tested on your speaking and writing skills. The time given to this section is 77-93 minutes. To assess speaking, your skills will be tested by your ability to produce spoken English in an academic environment.

Part 2: Reading (32 – 41 Minutes)
In Part 2 you will be tested on your reading skills. This single timed section contains 15-20 independent and integrated skills items, depending on the combination of items in a given test. Different response formats, including multiple-choice, re-order paragraphs, and fill in the blanks, are designed to test your ability to read, write and listen to information provided in English. Because PTE Academic is an integrated skill test, one item type in this part of the test also assesses writing skills.

Part 3: Listening (45 – 57 Minutes)
Part 3 consists of questions that are based on audio or video clips which begin to play automatically. You hear each audio or video clip only once so listen carefully. You are allowed to take notes.

Score Report

PTE Academic is assessed using automated scoring technology and test takers are provided with a score from 10-90 overall and across all skills. Pearson’s 10-90 scale is based on the Global Scale of English).

You can see your scores once you have signed in to your Pearson Vue account at www.pearsonvue.com/pte
Click ‘View Score Report’ to see your scores for each test. You can send your scores to unlimited number of institutions free of charge.

Retake Requirements

• New appointment must be 5 days after the previous attempt
• A candidate can only have one active testing appointment at a time.
• The candidate will not be able to schedule a retake until all previous test scores have been reported.

PTE Academic is accepted by thousands of universities worldwide, including prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD and Yale. PTE Academic is also accepted for visa purposes by the Australian and New Zealand governments.
