The project is implemented by the State Examination Centre (SEC) jointly with the Institute of Education under the Ministry of Education with the support of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan.
The purpose of phase II is to conduct an intensive training and consultancy program on planning textbooks (to be reviewed by SEC, in consultation with the Ministry of Education) with communicative speaking and writing teaching and testing materials of each grade for teachers to use with their students. The second phase of the project covers January 11- March 18, 2021 and two weeks of training and consultation meetings are already underway currently. Specialists on the English language curriculum, textbooks, and assessment materials from the SEC, Ministry of Education, and the Institute of Education have been involved in the online trainings. Under the guidance of the trainer and expert of the project, Nathan Carr, they actively discussed topics, skills and types of tasks to be covered in textbooks.
Representatives of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, Cultural Affairs Officer Richard Pinkham and Education Specialist Ramina Murshudova also attended the training session on January 21, 2021. They exchanged their views on the project's expectations.
The three-phase project has the following objectives correspondingly:
- Phase I will cover review of the current English language curriculum and provide necessary recommendations, and consultancy on areas for improvement based on CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference);
- The purpose of Phase II (January, 2021) is to conduct an intensive training and consultancy program on planning textbooks (to be reviewed by SEC, in consultation with the Ministry of Education) with communicative speaking and writing teaching and testing materials of each grade for teachers to use with their students;
- Phase III (March, 2021) aims to develop training materials for the professional development of foreign language (English) teachers.
